Volunteers

We could not be successful without community volunteer support!  We are so grateful and proud of the volunteers that have chosen this outlet to invest their energy!

Who can volunteer?

There are opportunities for young and old alike!

Adults can expect to be plugged into a coaching role or as a station aide.  While we provide a curriculum for each station, we also lean on the coaches to help tweak things here and there based on the athletes needs.  A station aide is essentially a co-coach and helps the station to run smoothly.

Minors (11 years and up) serve best as 1:1 athlete buddies, group buddies, or station buddies.  A 1:1 buddy will be together with a specific athlete for the whole season and will be that athlete's cheerleader and helper through the stations.  A group buddy will be assigned to a specific group (we currently have 3) and will help out as needed and be there to fill in in the event an athlete's buddy can't make a meet.  A station buddy is assigned to a specific station and helps where-ever needed to keep the flow going smoothly.

Volunteer Commitment

To help keep things running smoothly we ask that if you decide you'd like to join our volunteer team you commit to a whole season.  Each season is 10 weeks.  Joining us for one season does not mean mandatory assistance in the next   Buuuuut...we're pretty sure you'll have so much fun you'll want to come back again!

How to join our team

If the cute faces have already stolen your heart and you're ready to join our volunteer team you can start by emailing us at special.families@yahoo.com with your name, age and position of interest.

Next, you can begin the process by following the steps below.

There is a 3-step journey to become a volunteer with the Special Olympics.  You can read and navigate the process in detail at this Special Olympics RI link.

2)  All volunteers must go through Protective Behaviors Training.  This is a short online safety training program with a quiz at the end.  Located in the bright red star on the right side bar.

3)  Lastly, all volunteers must complete a General Orientation and quick quiz. This is also located on the right side bar for you.
